Nurse Manager (RN) – Cardiac Transition Unit (CTU)
Manages the operations of the Cardiac Transition Unit, providing nursing care to adult and pediatric patients undergoing cardiac catheterization, transesophageal echocardiography (TEE), and electrophysiology procedures.
- Manages and supports the day‑to‑day operations of the assigned patient care area(s).
- Supervises all nurses and support staff, including Registered Nurses, Cardiology Technicians, Health Unit Coordinators, and related clerical staff.
- Oversees scheduling, utilizing wage and flex staff as appropriate, and adjusting for patient flow.
- Forecasts and manages the unit budget, ensuring expenditures remain within the budget.
- Develops programs that address continuous quality improvement, system enhancement, streamlined processes, patient experience, and overall nurse performance.
- Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements specific to the unit.
- Guarantees that the highest quality nursing care is provided to patients and families.
- Develops and manages partnerships with clinicians, physicians and administrative counterparts to achieve common goals.
- Promotes integration of multidisciplinary work groups; manages recruitment, performance, and retention activities for assigned staff.
- Implements the UVA shared‑governance nursing model at the unit level, fostering shared decision‑making that affects nursing practice, quality improvement, professional development and research.
- Other duties may be assigned as needed.
The CTU operates twenty‑four hours beginning 06:30 Monday and closing Saturday morning after all patients are discharged or admitted to an inpatient unit.
Minimum Requirements- Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited program; a Master’s degree in a related field within five years of hire.
- At least three years of progressively responsible experience as a registered nurse in a patient‑care environment.
- For Dialysis Nurse Manager role: full‑time employee, at least 12 months of clinical nursing experience and an additional six months of experience caring for maintenance dialysis patients.
- License to practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
- AHA Health Care Provider BLS certification.
- Valid Virginia driver’s license (for managers with operations across multiple locations).
- Applicable specialty certification at hire or within three years.
Primarily a sedentary role with extensive use of desktop computers. Occasional travel may be required to attend meetings and programs.
The starting base salary for this role is $ annually. Compensation will be based on qualifications, experience, and education.
