Advanced Practice Provider (APP/PA/NP) Medical Oncology – GU/Head and Neck
Join UVA Health as an Advanced Practice Provider supporting the GU Medical Oncology and Head & Neck Medical Oncology teams. The role is based at the UVA Health Emily Couric Comprehensive Cancer Center and will provide care for 2‑3 medical oncologists. Work Monday‑Friday, 8 am‑5 pm (no call, no weekends).
All new hires undergo background checks and pre‑employment health screenings; direct patient interaction requires a drug screen.
Administration- Participate in organizational systems and initiatives that promote APP, RN, and colleague development.
- Evaluate and augment quality initiatives for better patient safety and care quality.
- Engage in process and quality improvement initiatives.
- Assess clinical practice and role performance via regulatory, state, and institutional guidelines.
- Self‑motivated learning and engagement in quality improvement initiatives.
- Evaluation of clinical practice and role performance per regulatory standards.
- Participation in initiatives that support APP, RN, and colleague development.
- Contribution to evidence‑based practice to improve outcomes and safety.
- Provide care for patients with GU cancers (bladder, prostate, renal, etc.) and head and neck cancers.
- Conduct routine follow‑up visits for chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and hormonal therapies.
- Manage acute symptom care and longitudinal survivorship post‑treatment.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members—including research coordinators, social workers, dietitians, surgeons, radiologists, and pathologists.
- Perform and document history & physical exams and analyze clinical data for differential diagnoses.
- Prescribe appropriate pharmacologic and non‑pharmacologic therapies, adjusting plans based on ongoing data collection.
- Identify appropriate subspecialist consultation.
- Communicate care plans effectively with patients, families, nurses, and other stakeholders.
- Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team of physicians, APPs, nurses, therapists, and leadership.
- Professionally lead team members in a dynamic environment.
- Participate in initiatives that promote the development of colleagues.
- Evaluate and augment quality initiatives, and engage in evidence‑based practice to improve outcomes and safety.
- Education: Graduate of an accredited graduate school of nursing or physician assistant program with a master’s degree.
- Experience: Department and unit‑specific experience.
- Licensure: License or license‑eligible as an Advance Practice Provider (NP, PA, CRNA, CNM) as required by Virginia. Must maintain all credentialing and licensing requirements of UVA Health System, the Virginia Boards, and certifying bodies.
- Certifications: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required; PALS/NRP and ACLS as required by position.
Standing for prolonged periods, frequent bending/stooping, reaching (overhead, extensive, and repetitive); repetitive computer keyboard use; proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills; attention to detail and ability to write legibly; ability to lift/push/pull 50–100 lbs. Possible exposure to noise, radiation, radioactive materials, blood/body fluids, and infectious disease.
Position Compensation Range: $ – $ annual.
