Compensation & BenefitsHourly Rate: $55.00 – $60.00 per hour (based on documented experience, qualifications, and market data).
- 15 guaranteed hours paid per week

- The Correctional Dialysis Registered Nurse (RN) performs the hemodialysis treatment procedure, delivering safe, efficient care of the highest quality and providing specialized registered nursing care in accordance with state law.
- Using professional nursing knowledge as a resource for staff.
- Utilizing assessment skills, technical skills, collaborative skills, documentation skills, and leadership qualities daily.
- Prince George, VA – Riverside Regional Jail
- Richmond, VA – Richmond City Jail
- Additional duty at Floyd Correctional Center, Fluvanna County, VA when no patients are at Richmond or Riverside.

Education and Experience
- Graduation from an accredited nursing school or equivalent.
- Current RN license in the applicable state and current CPR certification (or within three months of hire).
- Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English.
- One year of Hemodialysis RN experience required (two to three years preferred). Experience must be within the past two years.
- Proficient in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English.
- Strong technical/computer proficiency with laptops, tablets, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, SharePoint, etc.
- Understands basic renal function and consequences of renal failure; observes and records patient responses; performs thorough patient assessments and documents findings.
- Recognizes changes in patients on dialysis, makes necessary adjustments, notifies nephrologist when necessary, and seeks direction.
- Sets correct priorities for patient care, reviews and evaluates priorities as changes occur, and conveys priorities to staff.
- Develops, implements, and evaluates appropriate care plans, utilizing a team approach with patients, families, nurses, technicians, nephrologists, physicians, and dietitians.
- Assumes primary nurse responsibilities as directed.
- Communicates significant information to appropriate team members clearly and accurately; acts as liaison between head nurse, staff, and patients.
- Documents in a clear, concise, and thorough manner; ensures all paperwork completed properly during shift.
- Verifies accuracy of all orders during treatment.
- Performs all tasks necessary for safe and efficient operation of the unit, including set‑up, reuse, trash removal, water checks, opening and closing the unit, mixing of bicarbonate and acid baths, cleaning machines and stations, bath distribution, and other responsibilities as directed by Charge Nurse.
- Administers medications when ordered; teaches principles of safe dosage in ESRD, reasons for medication, and possible side‑effects; ensures medications given properly and as ordered.
- Obtains all laboratory specimens as ordered and performs routine tests.
- Interprets common lab results and confers with dietitian and nephrologist when applicable.
- Delegates responsibilities appropriately and follows through, ensuring all delegated tasks completed in routine and emergency situations.
- Assumes day‑to‑day functions of Charge Nurse in absence, including staffing and scheduling.
- Understands legal consequences of nursing actions.
- Promotes patient education and understanding of disease and treatment.
- Assesses patient’s readiness to learn; plans and implements appropriate teaching methods and evaluates learning.
