We are seeking a hands‑on Collections Manager to lead and stabilize our collections function following a recent team transition and merger. This role is ideal for a proven leader who can step in immediately, assess performance gaps, and drive measurable improvement across overdue and aging accounts.
The Collections Manager will oversee a small, partially remote team
, including staff based in Tennessee, and will be responsible for performance management, accountability, and preparing the team for upcoming return‑to‑office expectations. This is an on‑site role in Richmond, VA
, requiring a strong presence and active leadership.
- Lead daily collections operations with a focus on recovering significant overdue balances
- Analyze aging, trending, and payer reports to identify risk areas and prioritize recovery efforts
- Apply deep knowledge of optometry coding and billing to resolve complex denials and collection barriers
- Manage, coach, and hold staff accountable for productivity and performance outcomes
- Establish and reinforce consistent collections workflows, policies, and best practices
- Partner with leadership to support post‑merger integration and process improvement initiatives
- Demonstrated experience managing collections teams, preferably in healthcare
- Strong optometry coding and collections experience is required
- Ability to step into a leadership role quickly and manage through change
- Comfortable leading both on‑site and remote staff
- Experience addressing high‑dollar, long‑overdue accounts
- Experience with Care Cloud and/or HST Pathways is preferred
