Job Duties
  • Support the life, health and safety mission by identifying and remediating environmental hazards at all facilities.
  • Ensure compliance with State and Federal Regulations for remediation and disposal of hazardous, universal and other types of waste.
  • Support and supervise demolition of buildings through deconstruction and recycling methods.
  • Provide planning, organization, coordination and execution for remediation and environmental compliance at all VADOC facilities.
  • Provide analysis to minimize liabilities through assessment, cost-benefit, training, and risk management analysis and decision-making.
  • Provide guidance, direction, training and assistance with corrective actions, design, recommendations and preventative measures to address deficiencies.
  • Ensure safety of the public, contractors and VADOC personnel in accordance with OSHA regulations during projects.
  • Work with inmates and staff through the remedial re-entry program, providing guidance and training for returning citizens.
  • This position is construction focused and requires possession or acquisition of a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within 6 months of hire; must complete 40 hours of OSHA HAZWOPER and 30 hours of OSHA Construction Training within 12 months of hire.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent. Valid Driver’s License.
  • Experience/proficiency operating construction equipment (backhoe, track hoe, grader, loader, etc.).
  • Knowledge of general construction practices and ability to interpret construction plans and blueprints.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple technical projects and programs.
  • Experience training staff to utilize heavy equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Class “A” Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Manual Transmission Endorsement or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
Additional Considerations
  • Completion of or ability to complete 40 hours of OSHA HAZWOPER Training and 30-hour OSHA Construction Training within 12 months of hire.
  • Demonstrated skill in using computers and Microsoft Office (Word and Excel).
