Introduction

Prince William County is committed to ensuring that all residents can access information, services and opportunities to engage with their local government. The Language Access Coordinator plays a key role in advancing these efforts by supporting communication and engagement with residents who primarily speak languages other than English and are limited with English proficiency.

This position is housed within the county’s Office of Communications and Engagement and works collaboratively across departments to strengthen language access practices countywide.

About This Role

The Language Access Coordinator is responsible for coordinating language translation and interpreter services to provide meaningful access to the county’s programs and services for members of the general public with Limited English Proficiency (LEP). This position’s primary responsibilities include working closely with the Office of Equity and Inclusion on the language access plan implementation, as well as quality control and workflow coordination to ensure organizational compliance across the county regarding Title VI Limited English Proficiency standards.

The role supports departments in meeting language access requirements, provides appropriate training on meeting requirements, coordinates multilingual communications, and manages or supports social media and outreach efforts in multiple languages.

The Language Access Coordinator serves as both a strategic partner and a hands‑on resource. The successful candidate will actively engage with county agencies to provide inclusive communications and community engagement for all county residents.

  • Have excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Spanish
Minimum Requirements

High school diploma or G.E.D., and 5 years of demonstrated experience in language access programs, translation/interpretation service, equity‑focused initiatives with a focus on community engagement.

Preferences
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public administration, public policy, linguistics, community engagement, or a related field
  • 5 or more years of demonstrated experience supporting communications, community engagement, and language access or equity‑focused initiatives
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and Spanish
  • Experience coordinating projects, developing processes, or implementing policies across teams or departments
  • Five (5) or more years of experience providing oral interpretation
  • Experience working in or with local government or public sector organizations
  • Experience developing and delivering training classes and materials
  • Possess intermediate‑level computer skills in MS Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Certification in interpretation or translation (e.g., ATA, CCHI)
Special Requirements
  • Spanish language proficiency is required for this position. A satisfactory score on the interpretation and technical translation assessment will be required.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with language access laws, regulations, and best practices (e.g., Title VI, ADA, or similar frameworks) is required.
