Mainframe Systems Analyst

Leidos is seeking a Mainframe Systems Analyst to support a mainframe environment for a government agency, with expertise in coordinating, executing, and reporting on backup and disaster recovery activities for a large multi‑agency health care claims processing environment.

Daily Operational Tasks
  • Support Medicare health claims processing activities in shared mainframe environment
  • Perform daily backups of various mainframe regions
  • Monitors and controls job processing flows using scheduling tools (TWS and TDWC) in the z/OS, z/Linux, and UNIX environments
  • Serve as primary point of contact for researching and making corrections to mainframe backup jobs
  • Gather information from various mainframe systems to identify and address health claims processing data backup and data retention issues
  • Provide regular reporting on production and UAT processing issues
  • Ensure that production and testing mainframe software release packages are installed correctly and properly added to the normal backup schedule
  • Create and update dashboards to track the processing of various mainframe job cycles detailing successful and unsuccessful backups
  • Perform validation after various mainframe backup jobs complete
  • Coordinate various application and batch management daily tasks
  • Create internal and external daily reports to monitor the status of mainframe backup and DR jobs
  • Review mainframe batch jobs and claims processing for errors and help coordinate any corrections and necessary re‑runs
  • Coordinate with mainframe users to schedule and execute annual DR activities
  • Review various mainframe support tickets and work with vendors, senior technical resources, and potential customers to resolve issues
  • Potential ability to work second and third (overnight) shift work supporting batch processing and monitoring
  • Plan with MACs and implement annual disaster recovery exercise and report results to various government agencies
Basic Qualifications
  • Typically requires a Bachelor’s with 4+ years of experience. Additional years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • 5+ years supporting mainframe health claims processing and backups for the federal government sector
  • Must have 5 years of mainframe support, including knowledge of JCL coding and Mainframe Application support including:
    Batch scheduling and tools (IWS), Content management support and tools (CA View/Deliver, Systemware JHS).
  • Experience analyzing government mainframe systems
  • Experience monitoring and accessing claims jobs managing z/OS and z/VM environments
  • Must be proficient with TSO/ISPF Editor, IBM Utilities
  • Must know and be able to proficiently use TWS (Tivoli Workload Scheduler) and TDWC (Tivoli Dynamic Workload Console) automation tools
  • Able to utilize Incident ticket system to open, resolve, close tickets and Service Requests
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills including the ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers
  • Ability to use strong industry knowledge to relate to customer needs and dissolve customer concerns and a high level of focus and attention to detail
  • Strong work ethic with good time management with the ability to work with diverse teams and lead meetings
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and analytical skills
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain Public Trust clearance and reside in the United States
Preferred Qualifications
  • Applicants have 5 years’ experience with mainframe backup software such as CA Disk, IBM DFDHS, DR/VRS
  • Applicants have 5 years’ experience supporting CMS and the Fee For Service applications
  • Applicants have 5 years of experience with IWS
