These roles provide direct patient care under the supervision of Registered Nurses or other Medical Professionals. These positions primarily focus on assisting patients with activities of daily living while also monitoring vital signs and reporting any changes in patient condition. They also play a crucial role in maintaining a safe and clean environment for patients.
Responsibilities- Take patient histories
- Measure and monitor vital signs
- Prepare patients for examinations
- Assist with minor procedures
- Perform routine tasks under moderate supervision
- Communicate information with necessary explanations or interpretations
Individual contributors with responsibility in a clinical discipline or specialty spend the majority of their time in the delivery of support services or activities, typically under supervision. Opportunities for progression outside this career stream are typically limited without additional education or significant training and experience.
Minimum Requirements- Education:
High School Graduate or Equivalent - Experience:
No experience required - Licensure:
American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS Certification required - Certified to practice as a Nurse Aide in the Commonwealth of Virginia OR meet one of the following criteria:
- Successful completion of the UVa PCT Education Program OR Successful completion of another PCT Education Program that has been approved by NPDS.
- Documented proof of at least 1 year of recent (within the past 2 years) experience in a similar PCT role from an outside institution. Candidate must successfully complete a written exam and must successfully demonstrate clinical skills during 6 month probationary period.
- Passage of a nationally recognized and accredited PCT Certification exam (example - National Health career Association - C-PCT). Present Certificate as verification.
- Currently enrolled student nurses who have successfully completed the Medical/Surgical Clinical Experience and Didactic are exempt from the Certified Nurse Aide requirement.
- EMT or above certification. Candidate will complete the UVA PCT Course within 6 month probationary period.
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
Job requires frequently bending/stooping and driving (Home Health Aide only). Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; attention to detail and ability to write legibly; ability to lift/push/pull 20–50 lbs, and >100 lbs (Home Health Aide only). May be exposed to chemicals, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
CompensationPosition Compensation Range: $15.37 - $23.82 hourly.
