Chaplain- Position Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Chaplain to join our hospice team. In this role, you will provide emotional and spiritual counseling to patients and families, collaborate with community clergy, and support the interdisciplinary team. Chaplains provide additional support to patients and families without replacing their primary faith leaders, and may also assist with memorial or funeral services as requested.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Assess and evaluate patient and family needs for spiritual support and counseling.
- Provide crisis response and spiritual care during business hours and participate in on-call coverage rotation.
- Serve as a resource to the Interdisciplinary Team on end-of-life spiritual issues.
- Act as a liaison between Blue Ridge Hospice and community clergy.
- Attend and actively participate in Interdisciplinary Team meetings.
- Assist patients and families in funeral or memorial service planning as requested.
- Develop spiritual care plans and maintain accurate clinical records.
- Participate in Blue Ridge Hospice memorial services and department events.
- Travel throughout the service area as needed; valid driver’s license and insured, reliable vehicle required.
- Pastoral Counseling degree required, or equivalent graduate-level study in theology or related field leading to ordination and endorsement. Master of Divinity preferred.
- Minimum of 1 unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) required; 2 units preferred (the second CPE can be completed within the first year of employment).
- Experience working with death, dying, grief, and loss issues.
