Surgical Support Technician; SST - Main

Position

Starting Pay - $19.75/hour

• Sort and dispose contaminated materials per hospital guidelines.
• Transport patients to and from Surgery, providing comfort and reporting concerns as needed.
• Demonstrate infection control principles and aseptic techniques.
• Understand the normal growth and development of pediatric, adolescent, adult, and elderly populations.
• Work cooperatively with the surgical team.
• Show competency in advanced level case assignment and advanced level equipment.
• Demonstrate knowledge of anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology.
• Show knowledge of equipment, instruments and supplies.
• Demonstrate knowledge of surgical procedures and terminology.
• Communicate effectively in English in person, in writing, and on the telephone.
• Think critically; work independently with minimal supervision; perform basic math functions; manage multiple assignments; work under pressure; problem solve; organize and prioritize workload; recall information accurately; pay close attention to detail.
• Ensure readiness of assigned rooms (all equipment oriented and ready for case) – non‑patient care duties.

• Clean surfaces and equipment in the Operating Room (OR).
• Collect and discard hospital waste using standard precautions and OSHA guidelines.
• Clean area and keep stock in order for personal growth and development.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Education:
  
  HS Diploma or equivalent.
• Experience:
  
  0 years of experience (1 year preferred).
• Licensure: BLS within 2 months of hire. CNA or EMT preferred.
• Physical demands:
  Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; attention to detail and ability to write legibly; ability to lift/push/pull 25‑50 lbs in an environment that may contain fumes, chemicals, vibrations, heat, noise, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
• Position Compensation Range: $19.11 - $29.62 hourly.
