Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA/PCT) - Surgical Intermediate Care Unit (SIMU), Full Time
Join UVA Health as a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA/PCT) in our fast‑paced 12‑bed Surgical Intermediate Care Unit (SIMU). You will work under moderate supervision, assisting the interprofessional team with assessment, planning, and implementation of care for patients who have undergone complex surgical procedures or have traumatic injuries. Typical nurse:patient ratio is 1:3.
Responsibilities- Assist in patient care activities including monitoring vitals, administering high‑risk medications, and ensuring patient safety.
- Collaborate with nurses, physicians, and allied health professionals to support care plans.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient care.
- Support patient comfort and mobilization, including positioning and ambulation.
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- No prior experience required; on‑the‑job training provided.
- American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification.
- Certified to practice as a Nurse Aide in Virginia OR meet one of the following:
- Successful completion of the UVa PCT Education Program or another NPDS‑approved program.
- At least 1 year of recent PCT experience, written exam, and 6‑month probationary assessment.
- Passage of a nationally recognized PCT certification exam (e.g., NHA C‑PCT).
- Current student nurses with completed Medical/Surgical Clinical Experience exempting the Nurse Aide requirement.
- EMT or higher certification; will complete UVA PCT Course within 6 months.
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
Frequent bending, stooping, and lifting up to 50 lbs (and occasionally >100 lbs). Proficient communication, auditory, visual skills, and attention to detail required. Risk of exposure to chemicals and blood/body fluids.
CompensationHourly rate: $15.37 - $23.82.
