Assistant Professor – Family Medicine (Academic Investigator Track)
The Department of Family Medicine (FM) at the University of Virginia School of Medicine invites applications for a tenure-eligible faculty position of Assistant Professor on the Academic Investigator track. The successful candidate will be appointed within FM as part of the departmental strategic plan to expand research on colorectal cancer etiology, cancer prevention, and population health. The incumbent will also join UVA Comprehensive Cancer Center as a member of the Cancer Prevention and Population Health (CPH) program.
Key Responsibilities• Conduct independent research on colon carcinogenesis and colorectal cancer prevention.
• Collaborate with Dr. Li Li’s research program on colorectal cancer molecular/genomic epidemiology and disparities.
• Leverage the biobank of colonoscopy specimens for studies on colorectal cancer etiology.
• Engage with investigators across UVA Grounds on health disparities, cancer environmental epidemiology, and community-based participatory research.
• Participate in the Department’s clinical education and research through its residency and fellowship programs.
Qualifications- Ph.D. or terminal doctorate-level degree eligible for appointment to the University of Virginia faculty.
- Background in cancer epidemiology, population health, cancer biology, bioinformatics, preventive medicine, or similar areas.
- Significant experience in grant writing, data analysis, and scholarly publication.
- Recent research in colorectal cancer epidemiology, disparities, and prevention.
- Experience collaborating with community organizations and stakeholders.
- Collaborative style fostering teamwork, change, and innovation.
- A commitment to high standards in research, clinical investigations, service, and other responsibilities.
- Existing career award or equivalent.
- Career Award Funding from NIH or equivalent and/or K‑grant awardee seeking transition to independent research.
