Director of Accounting In office in Dulles, Va

Our client, a publicly traded company, is seeking a hands‑on and strategic Director of Accounting to lead its accounting operations including financial reporting, general ledger management, internal controls, and audit coordination. This role is ideal for an accounting professional looking for a growth company, and the ability to lead a team and work cross functionally with stakeholders to support business objectives.

• Lead and mentor the accounting team, overseeing general ledger, month‑end close, financial reporting, and internal controls
• Ensure timely and accurate preparation of financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP
• Ensure accurate and timely month‑end, quarter‑end, and year‑end close processes.
• Drive process improvement and automation across accounting workflows and systems
• Partner with FP&A, operations, accounts payable, and leadership to support strategic initiatives and cross‑functional projects
• Oversee annual audit coordination and liaise with external auditors and tax advisors
• Implement and maintain internal controls to support financial integrity and compliance
• Provide financial insights and reporting to executive leadership and ownership

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (MBA or CPA required)
• 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 5+ years leadership roles
• Strong command of U.S. GAAP and technical accounting standards
• Experience with Accounts Payable, Payroll, or treasury a plus
• Proven ability to lead teams and drive change in fast-paced settings
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
