We are seeking a Design Engineer III to lead and execute mechanical system design for projects ranging from new design-build construction to complex rehabilitation of existing facilities. This role is ideal for a technically strong engineer who enjoys owning design work, mentoring junior staff, and solving complex engineering challenges in a fast-paced environment.
Position OverviewThe Design Engineer III will lead the design and evaluation of HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and related mechanical systems. You will perform complex engineering calculations, develop specifications, and provide technical guidance throughout the project lifecycle.
This is a hands‑on design role with leadership responsibility over junior engineers and direct involvement in technical decision‑making.
Key Responsibilities- Perform complex HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection calculations including:
- Heating and cooling loads
- Equipment selection and sizing
- Friction loss and hydraulic calculations
- Develop drawings, specifications, and technical documentation
- Determine efficient and technically sound solutions to complex engineering problems
- Establish and refine standards, methods, and design review processes
- Direct and mentor less‑experienced engineers on assigned projects
- Respond to RFIs and provide ongoing technical guidance
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field
- Minimum 4 years of relevant experience
- Strong knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and related systems
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical and plumbing plans
- Proficiency with CADD and Microsoft Office (Excel required)
- PE is preferred but not required
