Position

We are currently seeking a Civil Project Designer in our Fairfax, VA office
. As a Civil Project Designer you will be responsible for leading design efforts as a project manager or lead engineer for low to moderate complexity projects and collaborating with senior staff for the delivery of larger and high complexity projects. You will work closely with a team of engineers and consultants to provide engineering solutions and advice to clients to ensure positive outcomes.

Primary responsibilities include engineering analysis, design and implementation oversight of Civil Engineering projects. This position will work within the project budget, train, mentor, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet project goals and client expectations.

Principal Responsibilities
  • Direct and train Civil Design Technicians to assist with reports, exhibits, plans and specifications and permit applications as required by the project’s contractual scope.
  • Prepare grading and stormwater designs for commercial, industrial, and residential site plans.
  • Lead design efforts for the analysis of Civil Engineering Projects; use engineering software and tools to create detailed designs, specifications, and calculations according to code requirements and IMEG standards.
  • Interact with clients to understand their needs, gather project requirements, and communicate technical information effectively; build and maintain client relationships through professional communication.
  • Work as part of a project team to support the execution of consulting projects; lead efforts in project planning, budgeting, and scheduling tasks to meet deadlines and objectives; document design decisions and instructions from clients while monitoring project design progress related to percent complete and fee expended.
  • Analyze engineering problems and propose innovative solutions; collaborate with senior engineers and consultants to develop practical and efficient solutions.
  • Provide in-process design reviews of Civil Engineering design, calculations, and specifications; implement IMEG quality control processes to ensure designs meet IMEG quality standards, industry standards, and client requirements.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in Civil Engineering; contribute to research, development, and innovation efforts within IMEG.
  • Prioritize safety and regulatory compliance in all aspects of engineering work; interpret state and local design criteria and apply them to project needs.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including other engineers, architects, and project managers, to deliver integrated solutions that meet project goals.
  • Identify potential project problems and seek advice from the Project Manager.
Required Skills & Abilities
  • Proficiency with industry-standard engineering software and tools, primarily Civil 3D.
  • Proficient with pipe networking and road corridors.
  • Proficiency in design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in producing technical plans and specifications.
  • Strong training and mentoring skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to communicate clearly in both oral and written form.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Eagerness to adapt to new challenges.
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to travel up to 15% with occasional overnight stays.
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Civil Engineering, or equivalent required.
  • 5 years of experience minimum required (6 preferred) in the building design consulting industry.
