MC3 Solar seeks a talented full-stack computer programmer who is proficient in using Google Cloud APIs for the first part of a two phase project.

  • Project Goal: Develop the MC3 Solar Design Tool, a web-based application that provides accurate and informative "solar potential snapshots" for specific properties, using Google's Solar API.
  • Target Users: Property owners who want to assess the feasibility and potential benefits of solar PV systems.
  • Functionality:
    1) Calculate hourly solar intensity values for each roof face/segment on a property, create visualizations of the annual and monthly solar intensity for a specific property – i.e., a ‘heat map’ of the property’s roof;
    2) estimate daily, monthly, and annual electricity production based on the solar data of each roof face/segment and the placement of solar panels, incorporating orientation, pitch, shading, and other relevant data from Google’s Solar API and selected solar panel manufacturers electricity production, and
    3) for Virginia users calculate cost savings and payback periods for solar installations.
  • Technology: Front- and back-end frameworks, e.g., React and Next.js. Google's Solar API and cloud computing.
  • Deliverables: A fully functional prototype, Project Action Plan, status reports, and an operations and maintenance handbook.
  • Timeline: 8 weeks; plus phase two work as agreed during the course of phase one.
  • Payment: Fixed fee, paid in installments based on milestones.
  • Intellectual Property: Belongs exclusively to MC3 Solar.

You must be a skilled full-stack developer. But for the project to be successful, you must also have the ability and willingness to imagine the needs and point-of-view of the product user. This means developing the Solar Design Tool to provide accurate, useful, and engaging information, presented in a clear, concise, and visually appealing manner. Also, you must possess boldness and self-confidence to take on a technical leadership role to create a new product.
