Job Duties

The Postsecondary Education Rehabilitation Transition (PERT) Program at Woodrow Wilson Rehabilitation Center (WWRC) is seeking a part-time Independent Living Skills Facilitator. This position serves as the main instructor for all sections of the PERT Independent Living Skills Assessment and will learn all Independent Living Skills activities, with one primary area of focus. This position should be able to teach job and independent living skills class eight days per month on 2nd shift.

Key Responsibilities
  • Set up instructional areas and teach Independent Living and job skills concepts.
  • Collaborate with PERT residential staff to document student observations.
  • Incorporate observations and student input into the final PERT Residential assessment.
  • Support the continued development and improvement of instructional activities.
  • Maintain daily communication with PERT staff to document student progress and ensure continuity.
  • Complete an average of eight Independent Living Assessment Reports per intake, including both Initial and Transition Academy assessments.
  • Submit reports and score sheets within five business days post-discharge.
First Aid/CPR Requirements

First Aid/CPR trained. This position is designated to provide first aid, CPR and AED only as a collateral duty to routine work assignments, responding solely to injuries resulting from workplace incidents, generally at the location where the incident occurred, until emergency personnel arrive on the scene. The incumbent understands that pre-exposure hepatitis B vaccination is not being provided, but that post-exposure hepatitis B vaccination will be provided, and s/he will complete annual blood borne pathogens training in accordance with the OSHA standard.

This is a wage (part-time) position and can’t exceed 1500 hours during their employment year. This position does not include health insurance, retirement or leave.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge of and demonstrated ability in teaching methods and techniques, learning style assessments and intervention strategies, disability characteristics and needs, basic workplace literacy needs, curriculum development, classroom and behavior management, Basic special education requirements for IEP development and implementation.

Additional Considerations

Prefer applicants in possession of a Virginia Department of Education Collegiate or Post Graduate Professional License, preferably with endorsement in Special Education, or a Technical Professional License with endorsement in Vocational Education. A combination of education and experience will be considered. Prefer experience teaching independent living skills and special education programs for students with disabilities.
