Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate individual to join our team at Orange County Public Schools as a full-time Special Education Teacher. This role involves working with students who have a range of disabilities and learning challenges, providing tailored instruction and support to help them achieve their academic and personal goals. The ideal candidate will possess a strong commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment that promotes the growth and development of all students.
Responsibilities- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to meet the unique needs of each student.
- Collaborate with general education teachers, special education staff, and parents to create a cohesive educational experience.
- Assess and monitor student progress, adjusting instructional strategies as needed to ensure optimal learning outcomes.
- Provide direct instruction in academic subjects, life skills, and social skills, using a variety of teaching methods and materials.
- Create a positive and engaging classroom environment that encourages student participation and fosters a sense of belonging.
- Maintain accurate records of student performance, behavior, and progress, and communicate regularly with parents and guardians.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and stay current with best practices in special education.
- Advocate for the needs of students with disabilities, ensuring they have access to necessary resources and support services.
- Collaborate with related service providers, such as speech therapists and occupational therapists, to support student development.
- Uphold school policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations regarding special education.
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field;
- Valid state teaching certification in Special Education or willing to obtain a Virginia Teaching license.
- Experience working with students with disabilities in an educational setting is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of special education laws, regulations, and best practices.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Ability to adapt teaching methods and materials to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive classroom environment.
- Proficiency in technology and educational software relevant to special education.
- CPR and First Aid certification may be required.
