Job Description

Southwest Virginia Community College (SWCC) offers career‑training programs in numerous technical, industrial and medical fields at a reasonable cost, going so far as to even waive tuition for certain eligible students. Located in Richlands, Virginia, SWCC offers associate’s degrees in such fields as business, education, general studies, liberal arts and science. These degrees are primarily intended for students who wish to transfer to a four‑year university.

SWCC also has associate’s degrees that feature programs intended to lead directly to a career in fields such as Nursing, Radiography and Administration of Justice.

The purpose of this position is to provide instruction and supervision in a laboratory setting to students enrolled in the Occupational Therapy Assistant Program. In addition, lab instructors may be asked to assist with mentorship, orientation, and/or remediation.

Minimum Qualifications
  • AAS in specific healthcare discipline.
  • Current Virginia license in specific discipline.
  • Up to date continuing educational compliance.
  • Two years of clinical experience in the professional discipline.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work with students of varying abilities from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all members of the program faculty.
  • Ability to evaluate student learning as described in program assessments.
  • Ability to effectively orient students to laboratory setting while ensuring student safety.
  • Proficiency with all fundamental program‑specific skills and equipment, including but not limited to skills represented on student skills list.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of student and program information.
Additional Considerations
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Prior teaching experience, preferable in a college setting
  • Experience using classroom technology
