Job DescriptionSouthwest Virginia Community College (SWCC) offers career-training programs in numerous technical, industrial, and medical fields at a reasonable cost, going so far as to even waive tuition for certain eligible students. Located in Richlands, Virginia, Southwest offers associate degrees in such fields as business, education, general studies, liberal arts and science. These degrees are primarily intended for students who wish to transfer to a four‑year university.
Southwest also has associate degrees that feature programs intended to lead directly to a career in fields such as Nursing, Radiography and Administration of Justice.
Southwest Virginia Community College seeks a candidate to serve as Department Chair of Electrical and Industrial Systems. This position will support the Division Dean in academic supervision, provide leadership within the department, and advocate on behalf of its faculty and students. The successful candidate will model good instruction and provide support to the Division Dean on administrative issues such as institutional effectiveness, faculty mentorship, assessment, hiring, and scheduling.
Job Duties- Interviews and makes recommendations on the hiring of part‑time faculty.
- With the help of the faculty, recommends budget and supply requests for the department and helps manage departmental resources.
- Mentors faculty, both full and part‑time, on best practices in higher education, instructional technology, and college policy and practices.
- Conducts annual evaluations for part‑time faculty within the Division.
- Supervises the assessment activities of the department, including general education assessment if applicable.
- Assists with accrediting activities.
- Supports the dean in all areas of curriculum management and oversight including program planning, quality assurance, compliance with instructional requirements, and internship/clinical placements.
- Assists with recruitment and outreach activities.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in a field pertinent to the department supervised.
