General Statement of DutiesThe Employment Skills Academy (ESA) Transition Teacher's primary responsibility is to provide exceptional education transition services for students who have been accepted into the Employment Skills Academy at The Campus of VIrginia Randolph. The ESA Transition Teacher will provide adult students (ages 18-22) with instruction, guidance, training, coaching, and opportunities to gain community access, independent living skills, and employment opportunities in order to facilitate the successful transition to adult life after public school.
The Employment Skills Academy at The Campus of Virginia Randolph is a three-year collaborative program with the Advance Career Education (ACE) center for qualified Exceptional Education students to pursue vocational training related to their post-secondary goals. Qualified students will explore various trades and potential career paths while receiving job coaching and continued instruction targeting functional life skills. Students in this program will be working toward an Applied Studies Diploma.
Starting in the 2023-24 school year, Henrico County Public Schools will designate select schools with high rates of vacant positions and provisionally licensed staff as Opportunity Schools through the HCPS Career Ladder. This is a new pathway within the Career Ladder through which entire schools, selected by HCPS, receive compensation supplements, additional staffing resources and specialized professional learning.

Essential DutiesThis employee designs and implements instruction for students with disabilities in Henrico County Schools. The incumbent is responsible for planning, delivering, and evaluating individual educational programs for students based on individual student needs and the goals and objectives of the Henrico County School Board and administration.
- Manages classroom instruction and behavior, taking into account individual student level of academic ability and behavioral/emotional needs, and vocational goals
- Develops an IEP (Individualized Education Program) that meets the student's educational needs
- Implements the IEP as written
- Serve as district liaison with area businesses and service agencies to encourage school to work/adult life activities.
- Coordinate services with appropriate ACE programs for students as deemed appropriate by the ESA committee.
- Oversee the implementation of the ESA program and curriculum under the direction of the Secondary Exceptional Education Specialists, Coordinators, and Transition Facilitators
- Maintain a regular schedule of direct involvement with staff and students to ensure the implementation of the student's IEP, including progress towards postsecondary goals.
- Organize and participate in the development of job opportunities and activities that address the individual needs of each student.
- Facilitate person-centered life/transition planning for individuals accepted into the ESA program
- Complete functional vocational evaluations as requested and identified by the ESA committee
- Train students in appropriate work-related attitudes, behavior, dress, and communication skills necessary to obtain and maintain employment.
