Summary: Richard Bland College (RBC) is a two-year, residential, liberal arts transfer institution focused on preparing students for transfer to highly ranked colleges and universities. The campus features 750+ acres of wetlands, bucolic forest, and the state’s oldest and largest pecan grove.
Responsibilities- Foster a residential environment that supports student academic success, personal development, and meaningful community engagement. The Residence Life Coordinator (RLC) is a live-in professional staff member reporting to the Director of Student Life.
- Work evenings and weekends and participate in the college’s 24-hour on-call rotation. Develop and implement engagement initiatives aligned with the department’s core values: safety and security; learning and education; inclusive and welcoming communities; discovery of self; and engagement and connection.
- Provide leadership within the residential community by advising student leaders and supervising student staff (Resident Assistants and Desk Assistants).
- Collaborate with area staff to create a comprehensive living and learning environment within an assigned residence hall or apartment community.
- Serve as emergency response personnel, both while on call and during other crisis or emergency situations.
- Mentor and guide staff to build meaningful relationships with resident students, coworkers, and supervisors to support student success.
- Embody the residential engagement model through in-hall opportunities, large-scale events, student interactions, community activities, co-curricular involvement, and educational programming.
- Utilize a restorative approach to work with students who experience peer and community conflict.
- Create assessment tools to measure learning objectives related to engagement plans and efforts.
- Oversee housing occupancy and building management, including openings/closings, building access, room change requests, and key inventory.
- Participate in the campus 24-hour on-call rotation for student support and crisis management.
- Support late-night programming hosted by the Office of Residence Life & Housing and the Office of Student Engagement.
- Be present during individual assigned events and perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, or related field
- Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Teams, Excel, Word, Canva and other applications
- Experience with event planning
- Knowledge of best practices around crisis management, response, and reporting
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with a diverse population of faculty, staff and students, utilizing strong interpersonal skills and customer service principles
