Job DescriptionLaboratory Instructors in the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) program are assigned to specific class times when students require direct supervision of skills practice and/or testing. Assignments of instructors to specific stations and/or activities are made by the lead instructor for the individual course.
Regardless of the station or activity assigned, the laboratory instructor oversees the following:

The minimum hourly rate for the position is $27.15 per hour, however, actual starting rate is commensurate with education and/or experience. The position is part time and as such cannot exceed 29 hours per week and is not eligible for health or leave benefits. However, the position may offer educational benefits through our professional development and educational assistance policies.
EMS Laboratory Instructor hourly rate schedule effective July 1 2024
- Certificate: $27.15
- Associate Degree: $28.24
- Bachelor’s Degree: $29.32
According to DHRM policy 1.61 Teleworking, effective July 5, 2022, Virginia state employees will return to the workplace. - EMT, AEMT, Paramedic or RN with EMS field experience
- Demonstrated experience in the field
- Credentialed and Completion of at least 1 Recertification Cycle at their current level of certification
- Proven academic excellence and subject matter knowledge, which may be evidenced by training, experience, and/or associate degree.
- Paramedic license preferred
- Educational or training experience preferred
