Middle School Theater Teacher (Grades 6-8)
The Covenant School, an independent Christian Liberal Arts & Sciences school in Charlottesville, Virginia, is seeking a dedicated and dynamic educator to join our Middle School arts faculty starting in the 2025-26 school year. Our school serves over 750 students from Pre-K through Grade 12, and is a gospel-centered community of faith and learning, rooted in the Western Liberal Arts tradition, focused on the formation of the whole person—mind, body, and soul.
Position Overview:
The Middle School Theater Teacher will teach students in Grades 6, 7, and 8 in a sequence of semester-long, required Introduction to Theater courses, as well as a middle school production elective. The sequence builds year upon year, covering physical movement, gesture and characterization; voice projection, expression and diction; story and plot; character realization; and the basic structure and language of Western theater traditions.
The ideal candidate will possess experience with directorial work on a variety of productions and be eager to work together with a creative team of colleagues. Candidates should possess a mature, Christian faith and an educational philosophy that is consistent with The Covenant School’s mission statement and Christian Liberal Arts & Sciences pedagogy. Most importantly, the candidate should be passionate about working with adolescents, able to connect with them, and committed to their formation as individuals on the cusp of adulthood.
