Instructor in Science Education

The University of Virginia’s College at Wise, a division of The University of Virginia located in Wise, Virginia, invites applications for an Instructor position (non‑tenure track) in Science Education. The position is a full‑time, 9‑month commitment at the Instructor level and with the potential for summer teaching.

Responsibilities

• Teaching a sequence of upper‑level courses focusing on content and pedagogy related to the Life and Earth Sciences for Pre‑K‑12 teachers.
• Serving the Department of Natural Sciences and the College on various committees.
• Advising and mentoring students—particularly in the College’s Teacher Education Program.
• Assisting the Department with assessment and other duties as needed.
• Supervising or conducting outreach activities and other training opportunities with students and teachers from local K‑12 schools, if time permits.

Qualifications

• Exemplary verbal and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability for engaged and innovative teaching at the undergraduate level.
• Master’s or doctoral degree in Science Education or a closely related field.
• Preferred:
  Experience with the Virginia Standards of Learning and experience teaching in a Pre‑K‑12 school setting.
