SummarySite-based substitutes are responsible for instructing students in elementary, middle, and high school settings, including special education, English as a Second Language, advanced academics, and resource classes such as Art, Music, Physical Education, Library, World Language, and other content areas. They assume responsibility for all aspects of classroom instruction, assessments, and behavior management on a short-term or long-term basis. They implement teacher‑created lesson plans or collaborate with a team of educators to generate lesson plans and provide differentiated strategies to instruct students at all levels in all content areas.
Site-based substitutes will be assigned to one school and are expected to report to that school daily.
- A minimum of 30 college credits is required. An exception may be provided for applicants who do not meet this requirement. The exceptions include:
- Accepted into an accredited educational preparatory program within a college or university’s school of education
- Completed a high school teacher preparatory course, such as Teachers for Tomorrow or Educators Rising
- Been employed as an Instructional Assistant for at least one school year at a K–12 organization
- Has one full year of experience teaching preschool or in a school‑age childcare program
- Has been employed as a classroom or student monitor for one year
- Must be able to understand, follow, and communicate effectively in English—both orally and in writing; work effectively with children, young adults, faculty, and staff; and perform all required tasks as assigned.
