Position Overview
The University of Virginia’s Department of Chemistry invites applications for a tenure‑track position in chemistry with a focus on neuroscience or the brain. The role will begin on August 10 2026 and is part of the university’s Grand Challenge Research Initiatives on Brain and Neuroscience. The Assistant Professor will establish a dynamic, independently‑funded research program at the interface of chemistry and neuroscience while mentoring students and contributing to graduate and undergraduate education and departmental culture.
The department offers a collegial and supportive environment with opportunities for collaboration within the School of Arts & Sciences, School of Medicine, and the new Paul and Diane Manning Institute of Biotechnology. The Chemistry building has recently undergone a $100 million renovation, and the university continues to invest heavily in STEM.
All faculty recruits will receive support from the Provost and participate in the Brain and Neuroscience Initiative as part of a $50 million research investment.
QualificationsTo meet the minimum qualifications, candidates must hold a Ph.D. in chemistry or a related field at the time of appointment and demonstrate a record of excellence in scientific research, with a commitment to teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Candidates should have a well‑documented track record of chemistry efforts as reflected by their publication record.
