Department of Family Medicine - PER DIEM

Join to apply for the Department of Family Medicine - PER DIEM role at UVA Health

This position involves providing physician services, including assessing and managing patients in various settings such as clinics, hospitals, assisted living facilities, and ambulatory surgery centers, within the scope of licensing, training, and credentialing.

  • Collaborate with the medical director, administrative staff, and nursing team to facilitate patient care.
  • Exercise independent judgment in patient assessment, diagnosis, and initiation of medical procedures, as credentialed by UVA Health.
  • Document comprehensive health histories and physical assessments, and initiate emergency procedures when necessary.
  • Formulate diagnoses, identify health risks, and communicate findings to the healthcare team.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests in consultation with staff.
  • Perform procedures and surgeries within scope and privileges.
  • Order medications and therapies in accordance with regulations.
  • Request consultations and referrals as needed.
  • Evaluate patient responses to treatments and interventions.
  • Educate patients and families about disease processes and treatments.
  • Manage patients following UVA policies and participate in institutional care settings if appropriate.
  • Participate in quality improvement, peer reviews, and educational activities.
  • Ensure proper documentation, coding, and billing procedures are followed.
  • Engage in continuing education and professional growth activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, consistent with professional standards.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Graduate of an accredited medical school (MD or DO) with completion of an accredited residency.

Experience: None required.

Licensure:

  • Board certification in specialty (must be obtained within 2 years if recently graduated).
  • Unrestricted license to practice in Virginia.
  • Current DEA certificate.

Skills: Experience with computer systems and scheduling.

Physical Demands: Standing, bending, reaching, repetitive motions, lifting 50-100 lbs., and exposure to various environmental risks.
