Essential dates:

- The Surgical Assistant’s primary responsibilities include performing patient care activities as a member of the surgical team, taking and developing x‑ray films, cleaning, packaging, sterilizing, and storing supplies, instruments, and equipment.
- Assist doctors with surgical procedures (extractions, biopsies, implants, bone grafts, etc.).
- Prepare patient and room setup for procedures, review post-op instructions, and ensure implants, abutments, splints, and other supplies are available as needed.
- Review charts and paperwork before the doctor sees the patient; complete appropriate documentation.
- Maintain compliance with OSHA and office policies; report hazards and assist in safety programs.
- Communicate effectively with patients, visitors, physicians, and co‑workers; provide translator support when necessary.
- Handle office procedures as directed (remove splints, fit splints, remove sutures, place packs, etc.).
- Utilize computer systems for scheduling, timekeeping, and communication.
- Support the quality management process and patient safety initiatives.
- One (1) year of dental assisting or surgery technical experience required; oral and maxillofacial surgery experience preferred.
- Demonstrated understanding of sterilization principles; HIPAA understanding required.
- Radiology certification required; CPR certification preferred.
- Familiar with anatomy and medical/dental terminology pertaining to oral surgery.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and professional demeanor; ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Problem solver with a high degree of professionalism.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills; effective in communication and platform use.
- Independent decision-making and sound judgment; coachable with a positive attitude.
- Requires constant and frequent judgment and response;
English language proficiency required. - Visual and auditory acuity for patient care; ability to move quickly and stand or sit for long periods.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally, with varying limits for routine tasks; exposure to blood borne pathogens, chemical hazards, and potential radiation hazards.
