Saint Joseph Catholic Church is seeking a limited part time parish Bookkeeper.
The Parish Bookkeeper supports the financial integrity of the parish. This role maintains the parish’s financial records, ensures accurate and timely processing of financial transactions, and provides key support in preparing financial statements, payroll, and the annual parish budget. The ideal candidate will bring both technical skill and a commitment to serving the parish community.
Key Responsibilities- Maintain and update the parish bookkeeping and accounting system in accordance with diocesan policies and accounting best practices.
- Process accounts payable and receivable, including entering data, posting deposits, and preparing checks for timely invoice payment.
- Prepare payroll and ensure all related documentation is accurate and properly maintained.
- Complete monthly reconciliation of bank, credit card, and investment accounts.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for the Pastor and Parish Finance Council.
- Assist in preparing the annual operating budget and collaborate with ministry leads, staff, and the Pastor throughout the budgeting process.
- Utilize Parish
SOFT for financial tracking, reporting, and recordkeeping. - Perform other related accounting and administrative tasks as needed.
- Prior accounting or bookkeeping experience required; parish or nonprofit financial experience preferred.
- Strong proficiency with accounting software is required; experience with Parish
SOFT is preferred. - Comfortable with Microsoft Office (especially Excel) and digital recordkeeping tools.
- Highly organized, dependable, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality regarding parish financial and personnel information.
- Familiarity with Catholic parish operations is helpful, though not required.
- Approximately 10 hours per week, in addition to attendance at monthly Finance Council meetings.
