Maintenance Technician / Mechanic, Manufacturing Production
PURPOSE OF POSITION
To prepare, assemble and install vehicle and/or chipper components to required specifications for Mechanical, Hydraulic, Electrical, Unit and Finish department.
RESPONSIBILITIES- Read and interpret schematics (blueprints).
- Read and interpret work orders.
- Use basic hand tools such as tape measure and specialty equipment.
- Follow established safety and quality policies, procedures, and practices.
- Learn and operate all equipment within the work area (cell).
- Perform rework as required.
- Support APS (Altec Production System) initiatives; may participate in RCI events.
- Willingness to move to other work areas in order to support production needs (cross‑train).
- Maintain daily time records.
- Install unit vehicle and/or chipper components and accessories.
- Test installed components.
- Master mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and troubleshooting skills.
- Willingness and ability to train new/current associates.
- Maintain and complete documentation or paperwork.
- Job duties may vary by location.
- High School Diploma/GED from an accredited institution is required.
- Ability to read, write, and comprehend required documents.
- Basic computer usage knowledge required.
- Ability to read tape measures, blueprints, and schematics.
- State Certification (career readiness) desired.
- Proficient knowledge of at least one of the following:
Mechanical, Hydraulics, Electrical, Manufacturing/Production processes.
- Ability to obtain Forklift certificate if required.
- Keep a clean work area (5S).
- Assist co‑workers and group leads as needed.
- Knowledge of Altec programs and/or systems.
- Shift work may be required.
- Clean up and dispose of any trash generated while performing job responsibilities.
- Perform any other duties as required/assigned.
- Safety in everything we do.
- Ensures appropriate reviews have been performed as needed for high quality.
- Continuous attention to all job functions ensuring quality products.
- Requires outside and inside contacts to carry out company policy and programs; improper handling will have considerable effect on operational results; must often deal with matters requiring explanation, persuasion and obtaining approvals.
- Use and conduct proper care of PPE.
- Read and interpret blueprints and weld symbols.
- Use basic hand tools such as tape measure and specialty equipment.
- Learn and operate all equipment within the work area (cell).
- Perform rework as requested.
- Support APS initiatives; may participate in RCI events.
- Cross‑train as required.
- Lay out and mark dimensions and reference lines on material applying knowledge of shop math and layout techniques.
- Perform MIG welding using a variety of arc and gas welding equipment.
- Inspect assemblies and components for conformance.
- Trim, file, grind, sand, deburr, buff, and smooth surfaces using hand tools and portable power tools.
- Train new/current associates.
- Follow safety, environmental and quality policies, procedures, and practices.
- Maintain work area and shop tools/equipment.
- Maintain daily time records.
- Other job duties as assigned.

- High School Diploma/GED required.
- Vocational training desired.
- AWS
D.1.1 weld certification required. - Proficient knowledge of welding, mechanical.
