As a Deputy Sheriff - Bailiff, your duties will include:
- Serving as a Bailiff in the courtroom
, ensuring order and security during court proceedings. - Transferring inmates to and from the courts and correctional facilities.
- Searching individuals entering the courtroom when necessary.
- Monitoring all courtroom activities to anticipate and address any safety concerns.
- Assisting courtroom personnel and jurors to ensure smooth operation of the courtroom.
- Demonstrating professionalism, integrity, and a strong commitment to community service.
To participate in the Deputy Sheriff - Bailiff recruitment process, candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Certification: Must hold a current, valid Virginia DCJS Certification as a Jail Officer or Law Enforcement Officer.
- Citizenship: Must be a U.S. citizen or have applied for citizenship.
- Education: High school diploma, General Education Degree (GED), or equivalent.
- Driver’s License: Must possess a valid Virginia operator's license at the time of employment.
- Age: Must be at least 21 years old by the date of hire or completion of the training academy.
- Criminal History: No felony convictions
; misdemeanor convictions will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. - Drug Use: No felony drug charges or multiple uses/experimentation with heroin, cocaine, LSD, methamphetamines, or similar substances.
- Tobacco Use: Must agree to abstain from tobacco products both on and off duty, in compliance with Virginia Heart and Lung Laws.
