Overview

Specialized emergency dispatch services for York-Poquoson-Williamsburg-James City County Regional Communications Center. Operates radio, CAD, VCIN/NCIC.

• Receive and process 911 and non-emergency calls, determine priority, dispatch appropriate units.
• Operate state-of-the-art 800 MHz radio system, CAD, VCIN/NCIC for law enforcement, fire/EMS, public utilities.
• Maintain logs of computer and equipment malfunctions, monitor county alarm systems, cameras, NAWAS.
• Provide emergency medical instruction over the phone until responders arrive.
• Coordinate with other public safety agencies, hospitals, vendors for repairs.
• Document incidents, prepare activity reports, assign case numbers.
• Respond to alerts, confirm responses for all agencies.

• High school diploma and at least one year of customer service experience or equivalent.
• Typing minimum 40 WPM with high accuracy.
• Strong attention to detail, clear concise speaking, excellent listening.
• Must complete VCIN/NCIC certification, Hampton Roads Criminal Justice Dispatcher Academy, Emergency Medical Dispatcher Certification, and in-house Communications Officer I training.
• Ability to make quick decisions while maintaining composure in emergency situations.
• Strong written and oral communication skills, understand and follow directions.
• Must be willing to rotating shifts, days, nights, weekends, holidays.
• Must reside within a sixty-minute response time from York County.

Rotating shift, including days, nights, weekends and holidays. Subject to overtime as needed.

Successful completion of background checks, pre-employment checks, including hearing and visual acuity screening may be required.

Sedentary work, sitting most of the time, may involve walking or standing for brief periods. Must operate machinery and equipment.
