Assistant Professor of IT / Cybersecurity PRIMARY PURPOSE/SCOPEBluefield University seeks a mission-driven Cybersecurity and IT College Professor to deliver high-quality instruction in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, and related fields. The ideal candidate will possess a strong academic background as well as practical experience in the cybersecurity and IT domains. The professor will engage in curriculum development, conduct research, participate in departmental activities, and advise students, all while fostering a positive learning environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES, AND FUNCTIONS Instruction:- Teach courses in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Networking, Systems Administration, and related subjects.
- Develop course syllabi, instructional materials, and assessments that align with learning objectives.
- Utilize various teaching methods, including lectures, discussions, labs, and online platforms to enhance student engagement and learning.
- Collaborate with faculty and administration to design and enhance the cybersecurity and IT curriculum.
- Stay updated with technological advancements and industry trends to ensure curriculum relevance and rigor.
- Engage in scholarly research in the field of cybersecurity and IT, contributing to publications and presentations at conferences.
- Supervise and mentor student research projects and theses as appropriate.
- Provide academic advising to students, helping them make course selections and career plans.
- Mentor students in professional development and networking opportunities in the cybersecurity and IT fields.
- Participate in departmental and college committees, contributing to program development and institutional policies.
- Engage in community outreach efforts to promote cybersecurity awareness and education.
- A Ph.D. in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a closely related field is preferred; a Master’s degree will also be considered.
- Demonstrated teaching experience at the college level is highly desirable.
- Practical experience in cybersecurity or IT roles; relevant certifications (e.g., CISSP, CISM, CompTIA Security+, CEH) are a plus.
- Strong understanding of cybersecurity principles, technologies, and best practices.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to foster an inclusive learning environment that respects diverse viewpoints.
- Proficiency in relevant programming languages and tools used in cybersecurity and IT.
- Familiarity with current cybersecurity threats, vulnerabilities, and remediation strategies.
- Position may require a mix of in-person and online teaching modalities.
- Some evening or weekend hours may be required, especially for student events or office hours.
