We are seeking an experienced Senior Network Engineer to support the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) within its Information Technology Directorate (ITD). NCIS provides global law enforcement, counterintelligence, cyber, and security support to the Department of the Navy. This role plays a critical part in ensuring the reliability, security, and performance of NCIS network infrastructure across multiple enclaves and geographically dispersed locations.
Position OverviewThe Senior Network Engineer is responsible for testing, analyzing, monitoring, and maintaining all elements of NCIS' network infrastructure, including voice, video, data, and cloud-integrated systems. This role requires expert-level technical skills, strong diagnostic abilities, and experience supporting enterprise-grade networks in highly secure environments.
The ideal candidate will have extensive hands‑on experience with Cisco platforms, enterprise routing and switching, SD‑WAN, VOIP operations, firewalls, network performance tools, and troubleshooting across LAN/WAN/WLAN/SAN environments. This position requires the ability to work proactively in a fast‑paced, mission‑oriented environment while ensuring network stability, performance, and security.
NCIS Mission Context
The Naval Criminal Investigative Service plays a vital role in detecting, investigating, and neutralizing criminal, intelligence, cyber, and terrorism threats against the Navy and Marine Corps. Reliable, secure, and high‑performing networks are essential to NCIS' global operations.
The Senior Network Engineer supports NCIS' Information Technology Directorate (ITD) by ensuring mission‑critical voice, video, and data systems remain resilient, secure, and optimized‑directly enabling agents, analysts, investigators, and leadership to operate effectively across a fast‑changing global threat environment.
Responsibilities- Test, monitor, and analyze all components of network facilities across multiple enclaves.
- Monitor and control the performance and status of network resources using hardware and software tools.
- Identify, diagnose, and resolve issues affecting network performance, availability, access, and stability.
- Analyze network usage, traffic flows, interfaces, and operational trends to optimize system performance.
- Provide technical planning, design, integration, installation, troubleshooting, repair, and documentation for network and communications systems.
- Perform provisioning, operations, testing, and emergency response for ongoing VOIP network operations.
- Oversee and manage upgrades to voice, video, and network systems across a multi‑location enterprise environment.
- Ensure all operational and support documentation is accurate, complete, and up to date.
- Conduct preventative maintenance and continuous network improvements.
- Maintain awareness of emerging technologies in cloud services, online media, storage solutions, and data center technologies to inform modernization efforts.
- Work with vendors on equipment specifications, support escalations, troubleshooting, and lifecycle management.
- Provide training, guidance, and technical expertise to system users and junior network staff.
- TS/SCI adjudicated clearance required at start of contract.
