We have an exciting opportunity for a new graduate Band 5 Dietitian, in our Community Dietetic Team, part of the Newcastle Nutrition Dietetic Service, at Newcastle upon Tyne NHS Foundation Trust. The position will enable the successful candidate to experience and develop skills in core specialties. The post holder will have the opportunity to carry a caseload, oversee clinics, group education and home visits in 2-3 of the teams specialist areas:

  • Oral Nutrition Support & Home Enteral feeding dietetic- led teams (based at Regent Point, Gosforth)
  • Tier 3 Specialist Weight Management Multidisciplinary team & Cardiac Rehab (based at Regent Point, Gosforth)
  • Specialist Diabetes (multidisciplinary team based at Newcastle Diabetes Centre, FRH)

The role will be focused on adult dietetics, there are opportunities to experience paediatrics, within home enteral feeding if interested. it is essential you enjoy and wish to participate in effective multidisciplinary teamwork. Within the role, you may also be required to facilitate group education so an interest in developing experience and skills in this area is required. We are also looking for applications that can demonstrate excellent communication skills, as there is a strong requirement to utilise motivational interviewing, counselling skills in the specialities covered.

You will work within supportive specialist teams to assess, plan and implement care in the clinical areas. You will be supported to develop your skills through training, preceptorship and regular 1:1 support.

The department oversees A, B and C dietetic student training in collaboration with Newcastle and Leeds Universities. The service strives to provide first-class patient care and is constantly evolving to meet patient needs. To help us achieve our aims, roles are supported by a job plan and the team is committed to supporting staff/ service development;
Research, quality improvement projects, audit and CPD opportunities are all encouraged.

You will be required to work at locations across Newcastle; A car driver is essential for this post. There is a requirement to carry teaching resources and set up community rooms for education sessions including arranging bariatric chairs and setting up scales. Newcastle Hospitals utilises electronic patient records and the successful candidate will receive mobile kit (laptop and phone).

  • Deliver education and training to staff and students as required.
  • Participate in audit, research and service improvement work.
  • Attend and participate in MDT meetings and dietetic meetings.
  • Ensure compliance with our clinical governance framework and trust values. You will work in a manner which motivates colleagues, champions service user safety, dignity and drives continuous self and service improvement.
