The Food Service Associate is responsible for preparing and serving foods to patients, visitors and hospital team members, demonstrating knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards, and promoting a safe work environment for staff and customers.

• Complete food preparation following recipes and techniques as designated on production worksheets, ensuring compliance with regulatory guidelines and Food & Nutrition Services policy/procedures. This includes slicing lunch meat, chopping fruits and vegetables, and preparing salads and sandwiches.
• Ensure therapeutic menus are followed so patients receive consistent, high‑quality nutritional care within diet therapy guidelines and physician orders, accurately assembling patient trays based on specific tray tickets or cards, respecting diet order and allergy restrictions.
• Maintain a working knowledge of food safety, infection control, sanitation, and regulatory compliance, consistently meeting temperature, quality, and storage standards, using the FIFO system to reduce waste, labeling and dating all products, and alerting management of discrepancies.
• Display positive interpersonal relations with patients and families, communicate effectively with internal customers (physicians, team members, etc.), and demonstrate flexibility and reliability in meeting customer needs.
• Use time efficiently during heavy workloads, assist other workers as needed, complete all assigned cleaning tasks before shift end as outlined in job workflows and assignment sheets, and alert supervisor or manager if tasks cannot be completed.

• High School Diploma or GED (Preferred).

• 1 year prior food service experience, preferably in a healthcare facility (Preferred).

• Allergen Awareness Certification - VA State - ANSI‑approved within 180 days (Required).
• Food Handlers Card (FH) - VA State - ANSI‑approved within 30 days (Required).
• Food Protection Manager - VA State - ANSI‑approved (Required).
