Position OverviewWe are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) for a Medical Surgical / Telemetry (MS/Tele) unit in a community hospital setting. This role involves providing comprehensive nursing care to a diverse patient population while working collaboratively with an interdisciplinary healthcare team. The position is well-suited for nurses who are adaptable, clinically strong, and comfortable floating within scope as needed.
Unit Details- Unit Type: Acute Care – Medical Surgical / Telemetry
- Days: 1:4
- Nights: 1:4
- Daily Census: Approximately 44 patients
- Beds: 54
- Patient Population: Adolescents, Adults, Pediatrics, Geriatrics
- Charting System: Epic (required)
- Weekend coverage:
Every other weekend - Float required within scope of practice
- Orientation:
Approximately 72 hours
- Deliver safe, evidence‑based nursing care to MS/Tele patients
- Perform comprehensive patient assessments and monitor changes in condition
- Manage cardiac telemetry and interpret dysrhythmias
- Administer medications including heparin protocols and cardiac drips (no titration)
- Provide care for patients requiring oxygen therapy, HFNC, CPAP/BiPAP, and tracheostomy management
- Perform IV therapy, phlebotomy, PICC and central line care, and port management
- Manage post‑surgical patients, wound care, wound vacs, chest tubes, and surgical drains
- Respond effectively to rapid response and code situations
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including PT, RT, Pharmacy, Case Management, and Social Services
- Active RN license (Virginia or Compact State)
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience (minimum 1 year required)
- Previous MS/Tele or Telemetry experience
- Epic EMR experience (required)
- BLS and ACLS certifications (required)
- Strong cardiac monitoring and telemetry skills
- Community hospital experience
- BSN preferred
- IV therapy and phlebotomy experience
- Experience with neurological, gastrointestinal, renal, orthopedic, and cardiovascular patient populations
- Local candidates accepted at the same rate
- New travelers accepted with required experience
- Pre‑approved time off:
Up to 2 requests (must be submitted at time of submission) - Flu vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions accepted)
- COVID‑19 vaccine not required
- Facility maintains a natural nail policy
- Background checks reviewed individually
Base pay range: $55.00/hr - $60.00/hr
