Quality Engineering, Operations Engineer

- The position is responsible for independently managing, analyzing, scheduling, and facilitating the supply of components that support the production and service of equipment at the assigned site. The incumbent is the direct link between supply of materials for the assigned site’s production, working alongside quality, service, finance and engineering organizations.
- Manage the entire production life cycle through facilitating current shortages, engineering changes and customer changes to support machine and component on time start and on time completion to customer commit date.
- Facilitate assigned assembly plant meetings to review current production schedule, current component assemblies and future planned schedule for the facility as the single point of contact between Operations and Supply Chain.
- Analyze and identify changes in scope of work for assembly plant and suppliers during contract reviews and project management meetings on high-profile and newly released engineered machines and components.
- Review current supply chain capacity to support proposed late customer and/or engineering changes in collaboration with Contracts Management, Engineering and Operations regarding acceptance.
- Participate and/or facilitate cross‑functional meetings to support global requirements of parts, components and/or projects. Review the critical parts list requirements with Procurement (Buyers & MRPCs) to expedite/confirm delivery and report‑out on weekly Production calls on actions taken.
- Facilitate and/or establish cross‑functional teams, as required, to develop local supplier(s) to further support the specific production facility schedule.
- Collaborate with the buyer(s) and material planners to establish stocking programs to support operations.
- Elevate with Planning and Provisioning personnel the need for additional and/or adjusted planning on components or products that show historical fluctuations in demand, including AIO/OE Planning BOM Review, Lead Time Reviews & Long Lead Parts Reviews.
- Identify and initiate cost‑improvement activities to provide the company with the best total cost of ownership value. Participate in Business Transformation/Tiger Team/Projects related to Sites (Velocity, Data Integrity, ATO, etc.).
- The business system is used fully to maximize utilization and efficiency. Additionally investigate, analyze, and recommend streamlined process improvements.
- Provide supervision and mentoring to other Supply Chain personnel to improve their skills in purchasing techniques and strategies, and to encourage/champion initiatives.
- Ability to independently create training documentation and facilitate training sessions.
Komatsu Mining Corp. produces machinery and systems for the extraction of underground mineral deposits. The position is responsible for independently managing, analyzing, scheduling, and facilitating the procuring of commodity group(s) (raw materials, components, fabrications, finished goods, supplies, and services) that support the production and service of this equipment. The incumbent is the direct link between the materials, production, quality, service, finance and engineering organizations within the company.
Externally, the incumbent is the face of Komatsu Mining Corp. to the global supply base.
This position requires substantial interface with global peers, management, and director‑level positions at various Komatsu locations. The position will interact on a regular basis with the senior management of the supplier base. These interactions require the incumbent to identify Komatsu needs and conduct negotiations with suppliers to assure those needs are represented. Global travel to supplier facilities could be an integral part of this position.
Qualifications/RequirementsThis position requires the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in Business or Engineering plus five to ten years experience in an industrial procurement organization.
