Join National History Academy for an unforgettable summer where history comes alive and learning goes far beyond the classroom. Over four transformative weeks, you’ll guide 90 highly motivated high school students from across the country on an immersive journey through American democracy—its founding, struggles, and ongoing evolution.

As a Teaching Fellow
, you’ll collaborate with your fellow teachers, the National Park Service
, Case Method Institute
, and Braver Angels to bring to life a unique, hands‑on curriculum. You’ll explore how history connects to the pressing challenges of today while helping students strengthen their voices as informed, engaged citizens.

Each week, you’ll lead classroom discussions, engage with thought‑provoking guest speakers, and travel alongside students to more than 30 historic sites across Virginia, Washington, D.C., Maryland, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia
—from the halls of the U.S. Capitol to the fields of Gettysburg and the streets of Colonial Williamsburg
. This is not your average teaching job—it’s an adventure in experiential learning.

In return, you’ll receive room and board
, a $5,000 stipend
, all site admissions covered
, and the chance to connect with a network of passionate educators and thought leaders.

Your Role:
  • Bring America’s story to life—guide students in exploring the roots and growth of democracy and civic responsibility.
  • Spark curiosity and critical thinking through lively, student‑led discussions and place‑based learning experiences.
  • Design lessons that connect primary sources, site visits, and modern issues in creative and thought‑provoking ways.
  • Mentor students as they question, debate, and discover their own perspectives on history and citizenship.
  • Cultivate an inclusive, engaging, and supportive community where every student feels seen and inspired.
  • Collaborate with fellow teachers, teaching assistants, and guest speakers to create meaningful, unforgettable learning moments.
  • Model professionalism, integrity, empathy, and leadership while ensuring a safe and positive environment for all.
  • Uphold the mission and values of the National History Academy as an ambassador for its vision of civic education.
Who You Are:
  • A passionate, experienced teacher with a love for American history and a flair for experiential, discussion‑based learning
    .
  • A strong communicator and collaborative team player who thrives in dynamic, student‑centered environments.
  • A creative educator who can turn primary sources, historic sites, and complex ideas into meaningful, memorable learning experiences.
  • Adaptable, resilient, and energized by field trips and lively debates.
  • Committed to students’ safety, growth, and well‑being.
  • Certified in First Aid/CPR
, with the ability to respond calmly in emergencies.
  • Background check required.
Why You’ll Love It:

This is more than a teaching job—it’s a professional fellowship, a creative challenge, and a personal adventure. You’ll walk the same grounds as the people who shaped our nation, connect with fellow educators who share your passion, and watch students discover their potential as citizens and changemakers.

At National History Academy,
you don’t just teach history—you live it.
