The Elementary School Art Teacher is responsible for developing and delivering engaging visual arts instruction to students in grades K–5. The teacher fosters creativity, self-expression, and artistic skills while integrating art history, cultural awareness, and cross-curricular connections. This position supports the school’s mission by creating a positive, inclusive, and inspiring classroom environment.
Key Responsibilities- Plan and deliver standards-based art lessons aligned with state and district curriculum guidelines.
- Teach foundational art concepts including drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, mixed media, and design.
- Introduce students to artists, styles, and movements from diverse cultures and time periods.
- Encourage creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving through hands-on activities.
- Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs and abilities.
- Maintain an organized, safe, and inclusive art classroom environment.
- Manage classroom behavior using positive discipline strategies.
- Assess and document student progress; provide timely feedback to students and families.
- Organize and display student artwork throughout the school and in exhibitions.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers and staff to integrate art across subject areas.
- Manage art supplies, materials, and budget responsibly.
- Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and school events.
- Bachelor’s degree in Art Education, Fine Arts, or related field (Master’s preferred).
- Valid state teaching certification in Art (K–5 or K–12).
- Knowledge of child development and elementary instructional strategies.
- Strong classroom management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with staff, students, and families.
- Passion for fostering creativity in young learners.
- Cultural competency and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Familiarity with digital art tools and technology integration.
- Experience organizing student art shows or school-wide creative events.
- Flexibility, patience, and enthusiasm.
- Classroom-based position with frequent standing, walking, and hands-on activities.
- May require lifting and organizing art materials and supplies.
- Occasional evening or weekend events (e.g., art shows, family engagement nights).
Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
