JOB TITLE: Innovative Learning Specialist

CONTRACT: 245 day position.

FLSA STATUS: Exempt Employment Status:

REPORTS TO:
Chief Academic Officer

Summary:

Provides vision and leadership in planning and implementing the school division's

instructional framework aligned with instructional technology. Directs innovative learning and

instructional technology curriculum development, promotes best practices for including

technology in instruction, and coordinates the purchase of instructional technology resources to enhance instruction. Responsible for identifying and/or coordinating professional learning opportunities for staff, including division-wide conferences. Supports the implementation and monitoring of the key performance metrics within the strategic plan. Identifies and presents the best long-term direction for division-wide innovative learning and instructional technology.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
  • Responsible for implementation of the instructional technology framework in the schools and the division.
  • Supervise and support Innovative Learning Coaches (ILCs).
  • Plan and organize training, mentoring, professional learning, and planning for division and school needs related to instructional technology.
  • Support Elementary Technology Resource Teachers to develop instructional practices and aligned curriculum.
  • Collaborate with math specialists to support data cycle work.
  • Lead ILCs in supporting teachers with the implementation of Computer Science standards.
  • Lead and train school technology ambassadors with ILCs.
  • Identify best practices and coordinate the integration of effective instructional technology and innovative learning practices in classroom instruction.
  • Manage the instructional technology budget.
  • Work with the Director of Technology to ensure third party data security with vendors.
  • Collaborate with the science specialist for collaboration and support with STEM.
  • Evaluate instructional technology programs for purchase.
  • Facilitate implementation plans for content-specific instructional technology products with instructional specialists.
  • Maintain contact with instructional technology vendors for product updates to share.
  • Oversee the maintenance of the Professional Development platform
  • Maintain knowledge of current and emerging instructional technology to integrate into instructional practices and curriculum.
  • Flexibly apply knowledge of adult learners when designing professional development for audiences with a continuum of skills.
  • Apply design thinking practices to design, facilitate, and evaluate the implementation of processes, practices, and procedures.
  • Ability to see and explain clearly to others how curriculum, instruction, assessment, technology, and school culture interact.
  • Collaborate with neighboring school divisions to develop shared programs.
  • Seek out and write grants to fund division initiatives in the area of instructional technology.
  • Ability to build trust quickly to move instruction forward.
Qualifications:
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude, strong collaborative abilities, and effective human relations skills.
  • Exhibit initiative and leadership in professional responsibilities.
  • Apply effective organizational and work management practices.
  • Utilize appropriate instructional and administrative technologies.
  • Design and implement effective staff development activities.
  • Possess knowledge of current K-12 instructional practices, as well as principles and techniques related to instructional technology and project planning.
  • Maintain awareness of current and emerging trends in instructional technology.
Education and/or Experience:
  • Minimum three years as a K-12 teacher, ITRT, or Instructional Coach
  • Master's Degree
  • Virginia Postgraduate Professional License required
  • Administrative endorsement required
  • Demonstrated leadership experience
Language Skills:
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.
  • Explain concepts and practices to an audience with a wide range of ability levels.
Physical Demands:
  • Capable of traveling from school to school.
  • Capable of carrying heavy items, i.e. laptop computer, LCD projector, textbooks, instructional kits, and other equipment.
Work Environment:
  • Based in one building, but must visit all schools and report to the central office frequently.
Evaluation:
  • Performed by Chief Academic Officer in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of licensed personnel.
