Position: Upper School Visual Art Teacher, Beginning 2026-2027 School Year
Location: Henrico

Collegiate School seeks an Upper School Visual Arts Teacher beginning in the  academic year. The primary responsibility of the Visual Arts Teacher is teaching classes and leading art classes in grades 9-12. This teacher will be heavily focused on 3-D Art making and may include experiences with Ceramics, Sculpture, and Woodworking.

This is a full-time benefitted position, 10-month position reporting directly to the Head of the Upper School.

General Responsibilities include:
  • Teaching Art classes in the Upper School
  • Ambidextrous/flexible/interdisciplinary mindset; not siloed in one medium
  • Ability to teach art from a technical and conceptual orientation
  • Dynamic and engaging teaching style
  • Evaluating student work and making recommendations for improvement
  • Fostering a climate of respect for each child as an individual
  • Identifying and pursuing professional opportunities that enhance and extend one's teaching
  • Serving on committees and engaging in professional group work as necessary
  • Participating in all required School events
  • Other duties as required
Successful candidates will possess the following qualifications and competencies:
  • A Bachelor's degree in Art and/or Art Education with an MFA preferred
  • Teaching experience at the Middle School, High School, College, studio and/or professional level
  • Expertise in Ceramics and/or Sculpture
  • Familiarity with Adobe Suite
  • Ability to provide a portfolio of work
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Practicing artist with a disciplined studio practice preferred
  • Strong commitment to students with all learning styles
  • Ability to inspire students' love of learning, critical thinking and overall sense of ambition
  • Enthusiasm for professional growth, academic excellence and creative teaching
  • Commitment to broad participation in school life
  • Cross-cultural competencies
