GENERAL DEFINITION AND CONDITIONS OF WORK

Position is designed to prepare students to take state board examinations to include practical and hands-on and a written test upon competition. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to teach the basics of advanced nails to include all tasks in the state curriculum both practical and written.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS

The minimum performance expectations may include, but not limited to, the following functions/tasks:
  • Teaches content and skills in Nail Technician courses, utilizing curriculum designated by the Virginia Department of Education;
  • Plans instructional program; demonstrates skills, assigns and evaluates coursework. Administers methods to evaluate pupil progress;
  • Teaches content skills in specific technical and occupational programs;
  • Teaches process skills: problem solving, critical thinking, teaming, technical writing and communication related to course content and employment;
  • Teaches application skills through projects, co-curricular activities and school-to-work experiences;
  • Evaluates academic and social growth of students;
  • Encourages students to think independently and to express original ideas;
  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment;
  • Communicates with parents and school counselors on student progress;
  • Supervises students in assigned out of classroom activities during the working day;
  • Participates in faculty committees, staff development programs, and curriculum meetings;
  • Participates in the sponsorship of student activities, parent activities which occur in school, and after school activities;
  • Administers testing in accordance with division testing practices;
  • Assumes duties as directed by the building administrator.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Must possess ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Must possess the
ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff,
parents, and the public.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Must hold a current valid Virginia Nail Tech license and knowledge of the state nail
curriculum. Must be eligible for a Virginia teaching license.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/REQUIREMENTS

Duties performed typically in school settings to include: classrooms, gymnasium, cafeteria; auditorium; and recreational areas. Frequent walking, standing, stooping, lifting, up to approximately 30 pounds, and occasional lifting of equipment and/or materials weighing up to approximately 40 pounds may be required. Other limited physical activities may be required. Occasional travel with students on field trips may be necessary. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word;

hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, noise and hazards. Occasional movement of students by wheelchairs and other mechanical devices may be required.

Regular instruction to special needs children may be necessary.

Daily personal and close contact with children to provide classroom management and
learning environment support is required. Regular contact with staff members,
administration, and parents is required. Frequent contact with parents by phone and in
person is necessary. Occasional contact with medical professionals may be required.
