VALLEY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

SUMMARY

Assist students in learning the subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able and responsible individuals.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Designs and implements Individual Educational Plans (IEPs), in compliance with state and federal mandates, to monitor and/or promote educational and intellectual development of students.
  • Administers appropriate educational testing to gather data for the development of the IEP.
  • Provides therapeutic intervention in the classroom to maintain a therapeutic educational environment.
  • Attends and participates in team meetings, IEP meetings, and other meetings as required.
  • Fulfills appropriate administrative requirements of the school program (report cards, summary sheets, ordering of supplies, etc.)
  • Documents academic and behavioral evaluations of students.
  • Completes educational assessment of each student to evaluate his/her academic needs and to gather data for the formulation of the student’s treatment plan.
  • Provide an appropriate educational program for each student based on thorough assessment and review of school records.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of students’ privileges and responsibilities in the plan.
  • Provides accurate information regarding students’ academic progress to the team and administration on a regular basis.
  • Assists in maintaining school supplies and equipment; completing purchase requisitions for needed materials; tracking supply usage and inventory.
  • Participates in staff development activities and strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Completes other related tasks as assigned or required to meet student needs.
  • Practices confidentiality regarding student information.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university. Applicant who has had teaching experience must have an acceptable rating for such teaching.

The position may require thorough knowledge of the proper use of personal protective clothing and equipment and training in the area of precautions, blood borne pathogens, and barrier protection techniques.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of teachers, parents, or public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to disaggregate and interpret data to improve instruction and student achievement.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions, follow established operating procedures and effectively solve problems.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Hold or be eligible for a Virginia teaching license with endorsement(s) in the area(s) special education assignment.
