Overview

Christchurch School is a co-ed Episcopal boarding and day school serving grades 9—12. Founded in 1921, Christchurch is located on a 125-acre waterfront campus on the Rappahannock River in eastern Virginia’s tidewater region. The school’s Mission is to inspire and guide each student's pursuit of personal excellence in academics and character so they are prepared for meaningful lives as engaged citizens and community leaders.

Position Overview:

Christchurch School is looking to find the next leader of our softball program. While we want a competitive program, we want the next program leader to continue to help foster young women who value character, curiosity, and community. We define success from the types of experiences our student-athletes have as they grow and mature, rather than the number of wins and losses.

Nonetheless, we are proud that we are able to maintain that philosophy while we also have a competitive softball program. The new coach will be excited about building on a strong tradition while ensuring that student-athletes come to Christchurch for the totality of the CCS experience and not only to play softball.

A passion to learn and to work with high school-age students in a boarding-day school setting is a necessity. As is a desire to see the work of a coach as contributing to many areas of the life of a boarding school environment.

Christchurch softball competes in the League of Independent Schools and in VISSA Division II. Recently, the program has been in the playoffs in its first two seasons and has started to become a strong program in Virginia. This is a stipend position. The successful candidate will:

• Lead and oversee the Christchurch softball program, fostering student-athletes who value character, curiosity, and community.
• Build on a strong program tradition while ensuring athletes experience the total CCS experience beyond softball.
• Coach and develop high school–age student-athletes in a boarding-day school setting.
• Manage logistics related to coaching duties and contribute to a positive school community.

Requirements

• U.S. citizen or existing work visa, and a valid driver’s license
• Experience managing logistics of coaching-related tasks
• Experience Coaching High School Softball

Preferred

• Experience partnering with an admission team and developing relationships with prospective students

• Ability to be mobile around campus and buildings
• Some travel required (mainly for athletic competitions)
