Human Services Assistant IlI represents the full performance level in the occupational group for Human Services Assistants. Employees provide a variety of services while working in one or more program areas performing responsible administrative and technical work in support of agency clients.
General Work Tasks (Illustrative Only):
- The primary designation for this position will be in providing support to the Family Services Division.
- Completion of training in all areas of the Family Services Division is a requirement of this position upon hire.
- Under immediate supervision, this hire will assist in implementation of prescribed service plans by supporting family services workers by completing tasks such as facilitating and monitoring parent/child visitation, providing transportation for foster children and clients to appointments, gathering critical case documentation, and submitting to appropriate entities.
- This hire will ensure the compliance of court ordered services, as well as, assisting with drug screening of clients.
- This hire will also assist family services workers with home visits.
- He/she will complete Title IV-E packets by gathering necessary documents, obtaining and verifying client information and processing new applications.
- This hire will assist clients by providing information/referrals for rent, clothing, shelter, emergency food and other services.
- He/she will submit training requests.
- He/she will perform other related clerical tasks as assigned by the supervisor and assist caseworkers in various casework activities, such as drafting letters, dictating letters, developing meeting agendas, filing reports, developing spreadsheets, collecting data, setting up case files, typing or labeling case files, preparing and mailing correspondence, purging records, answering incoming calls, emails and other correspondence, responding to inquiries and documenting client information as needed.
- New hire may be asked to work a shelter if the need arises.
- He/she will assist in the coordination of special event programs and unit events.
- He/she will assist with coordination and facilitation of our Family Services Division, as well as, perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge- Considerable knowledge of: principles and processes for providing customer and personal services (including customer needs assessment, meeting of quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction); structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar; and administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, spreadsheets, managing files and records, and other office procedures and terminology.
Working knowledge of: human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation; mathematics and research methods; and eligibility requirements for the programs assigned; and available community resources. Some knowledge of laws, regulations, requirements and policies of Local, State, and Federal social, assistance and housing programs.
Skills- Skill in: operating a variety of automated office equipment to include calculator, fax/copier; and the use of computer-driven word processing, spreadsheet, graphics and file maintenance programs.
Abilities- Demonstrated ability to: communicate effectively with program participants; plan, organize, and prioritize own work schedule; establish and maintain working relationships with clients, professionals, co-workers, and the public sufficient to exchange ideas and coordinate activities; accept direction and follow established procedures; counsel others; organize, and post date, from records, reports and other sources using the appropriate format; exhibit solid interpersonal skills, including…
