Responsible for assisting with the planning, development, and implementation of the annual budget as part of a team. Develops working papers for assigned funds in the budget. Assists in the preparation of the annual budget by coordinating assigned Department/Agency budget submissions, utilizing the County-wide network. Analyzes departmental budget requests for assessment of budget needs; assists with the coordination and publication of certain budget documents;
and assists assigned departments with monitoring their budgets. Identifies and resolves budget problems for departments and informs appropriate staff about budget inefficiencies, working with them on the maintenance and review of proper budgetary controls. Builds rewarding relationships with departments to assist with problem-solving and process improvements. Prepares appropriation entries as approved by the Board of Supervisors in the County accounting system;
reviews and reconciles on a monthly basis the annual approved appropriations to the accounting system.
Minimum qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, or a related field, and some experience in general accounting, preferably governmental accounting, or any equivalent combination of education and experience providing the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Preferred qualifications: Applicants with a bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, or a related field, and 3 years of experience in general accounting, including some budgetary experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge and skills: General knowledge of governmental accounting, auditing, financial reporting, and budgeting; knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and governmental accounting standards; excellent oral and written communication skills; experience with Microsoft Office; experience with website content management software and Tyler Munis financial software is desired.
Additional requirements: The position requires attendance at meetings after normal business hours and working beyond 40 hours during high-demand periods, notably from January through May during budget season. Must be physically able to operate office machines, exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally or frequently. Sedentary work involved, including sitting most of the time, with occasional walking or standing.
