Position SummaryThe Sports Camp Counselor engages and supervises groups of children ages 5‑12 years old in a variety of sports activities and ensures they have a positive, enjoyable, and safe experience. Responsibilities include carrying out lesson plans designed by the Sports Programming Manager in activities such as basketball, flag football, soccer, and volleyball, and maintaining discipline and safety procedures during all camp activities.
PrimaryResponsibilities
- Supervise and coach a group of 8‑10 campers each day
- Maintain updated rosters and camper forms while on duty
- Organize, instruct, and supervise children while they engage in group and individual sports activities
- Interact with parents via phone and email in a professional and polite manner
- Utilize appropriate behavior management techniques
- Guarantee the safety of campers in all responsibilities
- Assist with early morning drop‑off and/or late pick‑up for camp
- Assist other counselors/coaches with all camp activities
- Perform other related duties as assigned by management
- Experience in a day camp or sports camp setting working with children
- Collegiate or high school athletic experience preferred
- College degree preferred; or currently in school, working toward a degree
- Varied experience with recreational and athletic activities; knowledge of basic sports skills, instruction, and rules
- Ability to work with and communicate well with children ages 5‑12 and their parents as well as other staff
- Ability to lead and involve campers in various sports activities
- Ability to edit MS Word/Excel documents and send emails with attachments to parents
- Ability to provide first aid and emotional support to children ages 5‑12
- Ability to coordinate the use of facilities and activities for a large group of children
- Ability to maintain effective relationships with employees
- Ability to communicate effectively with children, adults, and other staff

Certifications:
CPR and first aid certifications required
- Must be able to lift 40 pounds waist high
- May be required to sit or stand for extended periods, both indoors and outdoors, and squat, stoop, or bend
- Must be able to walk to identify problems or hazards and work with children during recreational activities
Salary: $13 per hour
