Join Our Team as a Locum Nurse Practitioner in General Medicine (VA) and Make a Difference in Veterans’ Lives

Are you a dedicated Nurse Practitioner with a passion for serving those who have served our nation? We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Locum Nurse Practitioner to provide essential general medicine services to Veterans across Virginia. This is an excellent opportunity to utilize your expertise in a meaningful setting, offering flexible schedules and competitive compensation.

In this role, you will conduct one-time non-treatment Compensation & Pension exams and Separation Health Assessments primarily through interviews, with some physical assessments such as range of motion and muscle strength testing. You will work independently in your own office space, delivering vital evaluations that contribute directly to Veterans’ benefits and healthcare planning. This position offers the flexibility of PRN scheduling, allowing you to choose between half-day (4-hour) or full-day (8-hour) shifts, making it ideal for maintaining work-life balance.

Required Skills:

Active Nurse Practitioner licensure and certification

Experience in general medicine, internal medicine, family medicine, or related fields

Knowledge of compensation and pension examination protocols

Strong interview skills and ability to perform basic physical assessments

Excellent communication and organizational skills

Ability to work independently in a clinic setting

Nice to Have

Skills:

Experience in orthopedic or musculoskeletal assessments

Familiarity with VA or government-related medical evaluations

Prior experience conducting Compensation & Pension exams

Certification in specific modalities related to general medicine

Preferred

Education and Experience:

Master’s Degree or higher in Nursing (MSN or DNP)

Minimum of 2 years’ clinical practice in general medical settings

Prior experience with VA or Government healthcare evaluations is a plus

Other Requirements:

Must have your own office space in VA, VA-approved facility, or telehealth setup where applicable

Willingness to undergo quick credentialing and onboarding

Must adhere to all applicable state, federal, and local regulations governing medical practice

Ability to complete exams and submit reports timely, including addendums or medical opinions, within scheduled shifts

Local candidates preferred, as travel is included in rates; no additional reimbursements for certifications or portal training
